Capricornia After Hours Service Limited (CAHS)
In June 2006, The Capricornia Division of General Practice applied for an Operating Subsidy funding under the Commonwealth’s Round the Clock Medicare: Investing in After Hours General Practice Services Program to establish an After Hours Primary Medical Care Service model to cater for the needs of the Capricornia population outside of normal General Practice hours.
Further to this the Division decided to establish a not for profit company known as Capricornia After Hours Service Limited (CAHS). This company is responsible for the administration and management of the clinics.
The Capricornia After Hours Service model focuses on the need to:
- Complement routine General Practice by providing continuity of care across primary medical care services delivered both in and after hours.
- Minimise the burden on individual General Practitioners to provide after hours care.
- Encourage maximum participation of the GP workforce by acknowledging and addressing issues.
- Reduce the burden on the Rockhampton Hospital Emergency Departments providing inappropriate after-hours primary medical services.
